Job description
About the Role:
- To support and contribute to the profitability of Lambert Smith Hampton providing legal help and assistance in relation to Risk and Compliance management.
- Lambert Smith Hampton Property & Asset Management encompasses both commercial property management to shopping centres, offices and public buildings and residential property services through LSH Residential, one of the largest block management companies in the country.
- LSH Residential deals with the management of communal areas of residential buildings on behalf of major developer clients, independent landlords and resident management companies.
- The Professional Services Division is a small in-house legal department within Lambert Smith Hampton Estate & Asset Management dealing with all aspects of legal work, particularly claims (Professional Indemnity, Public Liability and County Court) complaints and compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting the Professional Services Division by carrying out research, investigating claims and providing reports on liability as required.
- Managing responses to debt claims.
- Drafting letters and defences in respect of claims under the guidance of the Specialist Caseworker
- Researching and drafting advice under the guidance of the Specialist Caseworker
- Undertaking internal training in respect of Professional Indemnity, Public Liability, and County Court Claims.
- Opening, managing and maintaining case files for Professional Indemnity, Public Liability, and County Court Claims
- Keeping up to date with current case law in respect of property management, undertaking research and providing guidance notes to the business
- Assisting the Specialist Caseworker, as required for the proper running of the Professional Services Department.
- Carrying out administrative tasks, as required.
- Providing support to other members of the Professional Service Division and the Senior leadership team, as required.
Essential Requirements:
Required*: Legal education to degree level or equivalent
* A good understanding of leasehold property law, be able to interpret lease clauses and provide advice in respect of the same
* Be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of Word and Excel and experience in using a Case Management System
* Be able to work on their own initiative and drive their own workload forward under minimal supervision
* Be able to demonstrate an ability to meet deadlines
* Professional experience working in a similar role
Desirable Requirements:
* Have completed the Legal Practice Course
* Have a good knowledge of property management for long leasehold properties including the connection between Leasehold property, Freehold property, and other types of property ownership
* Have proven experience in providing comprehensive reports and feedback on their own work within an office environment
